Part of the life and doings of John Pulsipher, 1852-1891.

Copy of John Pulsipher's autobiography and diary. Begins with reminiscences of Pulsipher's childhood; his travels from Kirtland, Ohio, to Far West, Missouri; the expulsion of the Mormons from Missouri; the founding of Nauvoo, Illinois; the death of Joseph Smith; the construction of the Nauvoo Temple; the move to Winter Quarters, Nebraska; and Pulsipher's arrival in Utah in 1848. Pulsipher also makes references to helping new Mormons immigrate to Salt Lake City (1852), his travels throughout Utah and his interactions with local Indians, and remarks on Brigham Young. Pulsipher's diary entries include references to the Utah War and the arrival of Thomas L. Kane in Utah, the outbreak of the Civil War, Mormon Indian missions, the settlement of St. George, and the Mormons' troubles with federal authorities ("U.S. Government very wicked, are determined to persecute, prosecute, & imprison the best men they can find"). The final paragraph was written by Pulsipher's wife Esther at his request when he was dying in 1891.
